2368 - Learning English is Difficult Enough, Let Alone With Idioms! - YouTube
- hey there Aubrey I have a question for you
- Are you bussy this week ?
- Yes. I've got so much going on at home with soccer games, lacrosse games, let alone work. I got a to-do list a mile long.
- Wow. How do you handle it? Sometimes it can feel so overwhelming.
- Our listener came up in one of our Q&A section. A student asked about this phrase "let alone". They had heard native speakers use it and it is a little tricky. (tricky是棘手的意思) Because it kind of feel like there should be more words like that. You just say "let alone" and then the next thing. So we have lots of examples and we are going to share some other similar ways that we do this in English.
- Yes and hopefully our students, our listeners are just still getting kind of a clue already as to what it means before we even get into the explanation.
- To explain what exactly this means. Aubrey, what does it mean?
- This indicates that sth is far less likely of possible of maybe sutitable that what has already been mentioned. So the way we do this in English is we mention one thing and then we say let alone and we asy sth else that is even more impossible or unlike or would be surprising.
- This is like someone needs their glasses to see vary far.
