Dempster–Shafer theory

1. Concepts

The theory of belief functions, also reffered to as evidence theory or Dempster-Shafer theory (DST), is a general framework for reasoning with uncertainty, with understood connections to other frameworks such as probability, possibility and imprecise probability theories.

Dempster's rule of combination is sometimes interrepted as an approximate generalisation of Bayes' rule. In this interpretation the priors and conditionals need not be specified, unlike traditional Bayesian methods.
