2001年，美国高盛公司首次提出BRICS概念，用巴西、俄罗斯、印度、中国四国英文名称首字母组成缩写词。2011年，南非正式加入金砖国家，英文名称定为BRICS。
金砖国家合作机制成立以来，合作基础日益夯实，领域逐渐拓展，已经形成以领导人会晤为引领，以安全事务高级代表会议、外长会晤等部长级会议为支撑，在经贸、财金、科技、农业、文化、教育、卫生、智库、友城等数十个领域，开展务实合作的多层次架构。金砖国家合作的影响已经超越5国范畴，成为促进世界经济增长、完善全球治理、推动国际关系民主化的建设性力量。
作为金砖国家合作领域重要活动之一，6 月 29 日- 30 日金砖国家可持续发展高层论坛在福建福州开幕。论坛以 “塑造金砖国家价值链未来” 为主题，通过开展主论坛、平行分论坛和产业对接会，为来自金砖国家的政府部门、金融机构、科研机构、行业协会、产业园区、知名企业以及国际和区域性组织等近 400 名代表打造沟通与合作平台。福建省省长赵龙，国家发展改革委副主任、秘书长赵辰昕，福建省委常委、福州市委书记林宝金出席并致辞，巴西、俄罗斯、印度、南非政府部门代表视频致辞，福建省委常委、常务副省长郭宁宁，福州市和福州新区领导吴贤德、张忠、刘卓群、林建、林飞等出席。
在金砖合作的框架下，本次论坛围绕团结抗疫、数字经济、大宗商品、绿色低碳发展 4 个领域开展交流探讨，共同塑造金砖国家价值链的未来，携手开辟崭新的可持续发展之路，推动金砖国家与世界共享机遇，为后疫情时代的经济复苏注入动力。

Ladies and gentlemen, and friends of BRICS: Good morning!
It is my great honor to attend this meeting, and I wish we can work together for a better future of BRICS. I'm Michael from StraitsChain.
The topic of my speech today is "Straitschain - A bridge of trust connecting BRICS values".
My speech maybe a little bit different from other speakers, I am not only discussing WHAT, means not only talking about what services we can provide, but also HOW, how to help BRICS countries to cooperate in a more efficient, accurate and trustful way.
First of all, let's take a look at BRICS’ mission and vision.
Because they are very much in line with what StraitsChain wants to do, and wants to be.
BRICS follow the principles of "transparency, solidarity, cooperation and joint development." and the spirit of "openness, inclusiveness, cooperation and mutual-benefits".
We should strengthen our cooperation, reach out to each other to build a more reasonable international economic order. Let's advocate fairness, embrace communication, be inclusive and maintain world peace, and jointly promote sustainable global development.
To achieve these goals, we need to apply more advanced technology to make cooperation efficient.
Today we are witnessing a new stage of technology. But let’s look back at the stage of Internet first.
From information technology to Internet technology, and finally, the digitalization and big data, our world is facing drastic changes.
However, the global cooperation still suffers a major drawback of building a low-cost trust system.
As we can see in the bottom left picture, in order to strengthen our business cooperation, we need to establish a totally centralized system with different technologies and different policies.
This system needs to be maintained by all members running one centralized system, not a single member can be omitted in every single transaction, this will take a lot of extra time and costs.
We are entering an era when blockchain can be used as a tool of trust, different peers in different sections can be connected as long as consensus are reached.
Based on our consensus, we can complete transaction with a multi-centralized, or a decentralized system, and achieve value exchange with non-manual operation, such as using credible smart contracts.
This will greatly improve the efficiency of cooperation, enhance security, and strengthen private data protection.
