英国有一个俗语 as miserable as sin[罪犯]. 原本说的是very miserable 的意思,但感觉这里却很合适.
还有其他英语俚语：The chickens have come home to roost. 这个有因果报应的意思在里面.
莎士比亚『哈姆雷特』里面也有一句：Hoist with his own petard.
英文不那么直接说,一般笼统地说：

humid 是潮湿，就是水在空气中以水汽存在、饱和度非常高的那种感觉。humidity是湿度。
damp 有阴暗潮湿的那种意思，就是呆久了衣服都潮了那样。还有就是半干半湿。
wet 就是能出水的那种湿
